12/11/2023 0 Comments Rushing hour movie![]() ![]() The FBI, the inevitable organization of dreary white men in suits, seeks to cool him out in some backwater, so it dredges up the most incompetent detective on the LAPD to baby-sit him. Chan plays a Hong Kong inspector seconded to Los Angeles when the child of a prominent Chinese diplomat is kidnapped. The movie here is routine enough, and no plot summary can do its body pyrotechnics true justice. I have yet to figure out how he can seem to change direction in midair it shouldn't be doable, not without computer morphing, but Chan is such an eel-clown of anti-gravity, he brings it off. He has moves that are so fast and subtle that they seem to deny several of Isaac Newton's more stridently defended policies. But he has that incredible ability to stay in character as he falls off a 40-foot building and breaks his ankle for the 19th time. In his Asian films he won't use stuntmen, and has broken nearly every bone in his body. Best of all it finds in Tucker a partner for him to play off, one who brings out his low-key charms and high-octane stunt work.Ĭhan is himself a miracle, one of the great cinematic moving targets. And the news, for Chanophiles, is good: "Rush Hour" is a sturdily entertaining vehicle, easily the little guy's best American-made film. His lost career has been relocated in "Rush Hour," a buddy picture where he matches and meshes styles with stand-up comic Chris Tucker, a kind of poor man's Chris Rock. Somehow the angelic-faced gymnast with the fantastic moves and the guts of a Green Beret just hasn't connected with American audiences. Jackie Chan, that is, who is arguably the world's most popular movie star except in the United States. I recommend to watch it at least once.Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan star in "Rush Hour." It might not reach the highest level but it is definitely entertaining enough to rewatch it and spawning sequels. Overall this a really good popcorn movie. To be fair I must admit that it would be lower on my best Jackie Chan movie list but not everything needs to be perfect or 10/10. As expected with Jackie Chan the action / fight scenes are a pleasure to watch and with Chris Tucker the humor works well. The rest of the cast is a cherry on the top and I will praise Tom Willson, Elisabeth Pena and Tzi Ma for their performance. They carry the movie and without their performance I would have rated this far lower. Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker work well together and have very good chemistry. ![]() The buddy movie aspect is what made this movie so enjoyable. I must admit that today I would see a mayor twist today from miles away but failed back then. It is a well working vehicle to carry the characters and movie. The story is actually a bit better than it needed to be for an action comedy. So the story starts and I was vague because of spoilers. This “outside interference” is however not something the USA police authorities like so detective James Carter played by Chris Tucker is officially assigned to help him with the actual mission being to prevent any interference. ![]() However this puts him in a dire situation as Solon Han now in a new job in the USA is now a target for revenge. He is however only partly successful but it is still a good final gift for his leaving former superiors Solon Han and Thomas Griffin. Inspector Lee played by Jackie Chan is on a raid to arrest the crime Lord Juntao who is a mystery figure as no one knows his identity (or could tell the story afterwards). The story starts on the last day of British rule of Hongkong before it is handed over to China. ![]() It became one of the movies that is a fan favorite but not much liked by critics (and sadly also dislike by Jackie Chan himself). Jackie Chan brings in his great fight scenes, stunts and Jackie Chan style while Chris Tucker adds even more humor. Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker are a well working combination. It became one of the movies that is a fan favorite An action comedy / buddy movie with good entertainment value. An action comedy / buddy movie with good entertainment value. ![]()
